Selecting the correct LED screen size is one of the most critical decisions in event production. Too small, and your audience in the back rows cannot read the content. Too large, and you overwhelm the venue, waste budget, and create awkward sightlines. At Secrets For Victory, we have deployed LED walls at hundreds of events across Florida and nationwide, and we have learned that getting the size right comes down to four factors: viewing distance, content type, venue dimensions, and pixel pitch.

Key Takeaways:

  • Pixel pitch determines minimum viewing distance — P2.6 is ideal for corporate events with close audiences
  • Screen width should be at least 1/6th of the distance to the farthest viewer for text-heavy content
  • Outdoor panels need 5,000+ nits brightness and IP65 weather rating for Florida events
  • A 20-foot P2.6 LED wall is the most popular configuration for mid-size corporate events

Understanding Pixel Pitch and Viewing Distance

Pixel pitch — the distance in millimeters between the center of one LED pixel and the next — determines how close viewers can stand before they start seeing individual pixels instead of a smooth image. A P2.6 panel (2.6mm pitch) looks crisp from about 8 feet away, making it ideal for corporate keynotes and indoor conferences where the audience is relatively close. A P5 panel works well for outdoor festivals where the nearest viewer is 15 feet or more from the screen.

The general rule is: minimum viewing distance in feet equals roughly the pixel pitch number multiplied by 3. So a P3.9 panel looks best from about 12 feet or more. This means that for a corporate ballroom event where the front row is 10 feet from the stage, you want P2.6 or finer. For an outdoor concert where the closest audience member is 20 feet away, P3.9 or P5 will deliver excellent results at a lower cost per square foot.

Quick Formula: Minimum viewing distance (feet) = pixel pitch (mm) x 3. So P2.6 = 8 feet, P3.9 = 12 feet, P5 = 15 feet. Choose based on how close your front row sits to the screen.

Sizing for the Venue

A good starting point is to calculate the screen width based on the farthest viewer. For text-heavy content like presentations and speaker support, the screen width in feet should be at least 1/6th of the distance to the farthest viewer. For video and IMAG (image magnification of live performers), you can go slightly smaller — about 1/8th of the maximum viewing distance.

For a 200-person corporate event in a 100-foot-deep ballroom, that means a screen at least 16 feet wide for presentations, or about 12 feet wide for IMAG. In practice, we typically recommend going slightly larger than the minimum — a 20-foot-wide P2.6 LED wall is one of our most popular configurations for mid-size corporate events.

Indoor vs. Outdoor Considerations

Indoor LED panels prioritize fine pixel pitch and high resolution because viewers are closer. Outdoor panels prioritize brightness (measured in nits) because they compete with sunlight. Our outdoor LED inventory delivers 5,000+ nits, which is visible even in direct Florida sunshine — critical for daytime events at venues like Bayfront Park in Miami or outdoor festivals in Orlando.

Outdoor panels also need to be weather-rated. Our IP65-rated outdoor LED panels handle rain, humidity, and the Florida afternoon thunderstorms that every outdoor event planner dreads. We always build weather contingency plans into our outdoor LED deployments.

Common Configurations We Deploy

  • Corporate keynote (200-500 people): 16×9 to 20×11 foot P2.6 indoor LED wall — crisp text, vivid presentations
  • Conference breakout rooms (50-150 people): 10×6 foot P2.6 panel or 86-inch commercial display
  • Outdoor festival main stage (1,000+ people): 24×14 to 32×18 foot P3.9 or P5 outdoor LED wall — visible from 200+ feet
  • Yacht/waterfront event (50-200 people): 8×5 to 12×7 foot P3.9 panel — compact, high-brightness
  • Trade show booth: Custom configurations using transparent LED or fine-pitch panels for premium branding impact
Pro Tip: The LED wall is one of the highest-impact elements in your production — it is the backdrop that appears in every photo and video from your event. Investing in the right size and pixel pitch pays dividends in audience engagement and event content quality.

Budget Considerations

LED screen rental pricing scales with size, pixel pitch, and duration. Finer pixel pitch costs more per panel, but delivers noticeably better image quality at close viewing distances. For most events, the LED wall is one of the highest-impact elements in the production — it is the backdrop that everyone sees in every photo and video. Investing in the right screen size and quality pays dividends in audience engagement and event photography.

At Secrets For Victory, we include delivery, setup, testing, operation, and teardown in our LED rental packages. Our team handles signal routing, content playback, and real-time troubleshooting so you can focus on your program, not the technology.
